Waol.exe
Description – waol.exe is typically associated with one of
two different uses. As well as being a genuine process belonging
to the AOL browser and Internet connection it may be associated
with a variant if the Cool Web Search spyware application. Care
should certainly be taken to ensure that your system has not
been infected by the CWS parasite as this is a particularly
troublesome and potentially damaging application to have on
one's system.
As a
component of CWS the waol.exe process is an undesirable
process. It records your Internet activity with a view to
displaying topic targeted advertising on your desktop. It may
hijack your browser homepage and default search page in order to
serve you with further advertisements beyond popups.
As a
component of your AOL software, though, it is a genuine file. It
is the main process belonging to your AOL software and is
required should you attempt to connect to the Internet using
your AOL connection.
Associated
Errors – A slow running PC and increased advertising on your
desktop and browser are commonplace if you are infected with the
Cool Web Search parasite. Similarly you may also experience a
forced change to your homepage and unrecognizable search pages.
waol.exe as a
component of your AOL software is unlikely to cause any problems
unless it is removed or disabled indiscriminately.
Recommended Solution – If you do not use AOL then, at the
very least, disable this process and remove the file. You can
manage start-up programs easily with RegCure. Alternatively, run
a
free AntiSpyware scan on your system to trace the many forms
of CWS that exist. If found, remove all components of the
spyware in order to improve system performance, return your
browser homepage to its original state, and prevent the popups
and other forms of advertisements it has been displaying.
