Problem with
directx.exe?
Title
– directx.exe
Description
– The directx.exe process is most commonly associated with one
of two viruses. The Blaxe and Logpole worms are similar in their
execution and the payload they deliver and both use the
directx.exe active process name in order to fool users into
believing the process is a genuine one associated with a genuine
application or file.
The Blaxe worm typically spreads through the use of KaZaa, iMesh,
and Grokster peer to peer file sharing networks. Once it has
downloaded onto your system it will attempt to copy itself into
various folders of your computer using seemingly innocuous and
genuine file names. It will create some of these folders itself
in a bid to mask its identity.
The LogPole worm also spreads through the KaZaa network and
will, in a similar fashion to the Blaxe worm, attempt to hide
itself in various folders on your system. It also adds registry
entries and saves a copy of itself within the backup of your
system making it a troublesome worm to remove.
Associated Errors
– These worms add various copies of themselves with seemingly
genuine file and folder names. If you begin to notice files or
folders belonging to applications that you have not downloaded
then you should act immediately. The LogPole worm also stores
itself within the backup directory of your system and shares a
copy of your backup over the KaZaa network.
Recommended Solution
– The complete removal of all components of the Blaxe or LogPole
worm is a must. These worms can cause errors on your system and
slow down your system. They may also share a copy of your backup
over the entire KaZaa network. Removal should be done using
antispyware or antivirus software with the latest definitions
database downloaded. You can disable the processes manually but
they are likely to return when you next restart your computer.
For this reason it is recommended that removal is done using
Internet security software.
