Description codecs.exe is a major constituent of the Cozit worm that is most commonly spread using the KaZaA peer to peer file sharing network. KaZaA is one of the most popular and widely used networks and includes its own software to assist in the downloading and sharing of programs and applications. Unfortunately, because of this popularity, it has also become one of the most common methods to spread viruses and worms. While the Cozit worm doesn't deliver a particularly damaging payload it is still a nuisance and can cause problems with the KaZaA software and a drain on system resources. Once the svchost.exe file is resident on your system it will consequently copy itself into your KaZaA downloads folder using seemingly genuine names where other KaZaA users may download the file onto their own hard drive. Associated Errors A fake Windows error message is displayed stating that “This file is not a valid Win32 application”. The file svchost.exe is downloaded into the Windows directory and the Windows registry ensuring that file sharing is forcibly enabled and that the application is set to run whenever you start your computer. Recommended Solution – Cozit is a potentially damaging worm. The most desirable solution is to use an AntiSpyware application in order to scan your system, find all the components of the worm, and then safely remove them. Once completed it is also advisable to use a registry or PC cleaner in order to return your system folders and registry back to a healthy state, similar to before the infection took hold of your computer. We highly recommend scanning your PC for errors with RegCure. Its free to download and cleans-up all associated errors with just 1-Click!
I love RegCure. I was telling my sister
in law, how, since I downloaded your program, I have had little to no
problems with my computer. Everyday, about six times a day I used to receive
a message that said Virtual Memory is too Low. Now it's fine and my
computer runs faster too. Cyril S.
