Problem with
cmd.exe?
Title
– cmd.exe
Description
– cmd.exe is a Windows process that enables users access to the
Microsoft DOS command prompt. This process, therefore, is a
genuine process and is likely to be prevalent on the computers
of many users. It is not a necessary component of the Operating
System itself but disabling it may still cause problems on your
computer.
Some older DOS based applications require cmd.exe to be running
on your PC before they can be executed or opened. If you do
disable the cmd.exe process then they will not be able to run
without enabling this process again. For this reason it is
strongly advised that users leave the process to run and start
each time Windows is accessed.
Associated Errors
– Removing cmd.exe is likely to cause software errors. Because
some applications require this process to be running before they
can be executed disabling or removing cmd.exe may prevent
software on your system from running.
Recommended Solution
– Cmd.exe is a component of the Operating System that is
required to run some applications. This process should be left
enabled on your computer in order that it can start when you run
Windows. If it is causing problems or errors then you can stop
the process from running.
