Problem with
boot.exe?
Title
– boot.exe
Description
– Having a running process called boot.exe on your system is
usually an indication that you have been infected with the Elem
Trojan. The infection is relatively benign in the majority of
cases. The boot.exe process will force your system to reboot on
execution but it can typically be removed manually without much
hassle.
A Trojan needs to be downloaded and installed manually on your
system. However, as the name would suggest, Trojans typically
masquerade as a genuine and useful application in order that you
will willingly download it to your system and execute the file.
In the case of the Elem Trojan it may falsely claim to be a
Windows XP key code generator. It can be downloaded from some
sites on the Internet and also through the KaZaa file sharing
network.
Associated Errors
– As well as an executable file named boot.exe in the main
folder of your hard drive this Trojan will also install within
the registry. If your system unexpectedly shuts down then there
is a good chance you have been infected with this threat.
Recommended Solution
– You may attempt manual removal initially by deleting the file
itself from your system. It is usually found in the main parent
directory of your hard drive, otherwise use the Windows search
facility to locate it.
